Oilfield Workers Represented by Nichols Kaster, PLLP Lodge Overtime Action Against SandRidge Energy, Inc.

The complaint alleges that SandRidge unlawfully classified these workers as independent contractors, and failed to pay them an overtime premium in violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

    OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, September 04, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- On September 2, 2015, a former workover completions consultant filed a lawsuit in the Western District Court of Oklahoma seeking overtime pay from for SandRidge Energy, Inc. ("SandRidge"). He brought the case on behalf himself of all other similarly situated workers nationwide who were paid a day rate and no additional overtime premium. Plaintiff's complaint alleges that SandRidge unlawfully classified these workers as independent contractors, and failed to pay them an overtime premium in violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act. The lawsuit seeks overtime premiums, plus double damages.

SandRidge is an oil and natural gas company, with its principal focus on exploration and production activities in the Mid-Continent region of the United States. SandRidge and its subsidiaries also own and operate gas gathering and processing facilities, saltwater disposal, and electrical infrastructure facilities. Sandridge owns more 1.85 million acres of leasehold and maintains 11,000 drilling locations in northern Oklahoma and southern Kansas.

Plaintiff's attorney Michele Fisher stated, "SandRidge exerted significant control over these workers and demanded they work long hours in the field for weeks at a time. By misclassifying them as independent contractors, Sandridge denied them overtime premiums and other benefits and protections employees should receive. Through this lawsuit, we seek to get them paid the overtime premiums provided by law."
