Cortnie DiStefano Recognized as Professional of the Year by Capital Who's Who

Cortnie DiStefano of Buffalo, New York, honored by Capital Who's Who Branding for her distinguished accomplishments and contributions in the field of Education.



    ALBANY, NY, September 25, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ms. Cortnie DiStefano is a Special Education teacher at the Grabiarz School of Excellence in Buffalo, New York.

Cortnie DiStefano earned her Bachelor's Degree in Childhood Education and Special Education, and her Master's Degree in Special Education from Canisius College, Buffalo, New York.

In 2009, Ms. DiStefano began her career as a teacher of the hearing impaired, working at Deaf Adult Services in Buffalo, New York. Making a career move to the public school system, Cortnie DiStefano, took a position as a teacher of the hearing impaired at East High School in Buffalo. When a position at the Dr. Lydia T. Wright School became available, Ms. DiStefano volunteered for the position in hopes of broadening her special needs and hearing impaired teaching experience. In this position, Ms. Cortnie DiStefano was able to work with special needs, deaf and hearing impaired students in a fourth grade inclusion class. She also worked at City Honors School in the district before moving to her current position with the Grabiarz School of Excellence.

At the Grabiarz School of Excellence, Cortnie Distefano works with special education students as a second grade co-teacher. In this position, Ms. DiStefano helps students learn to be responsible, meet curriculum requirements, and become more productive students and citizens. She advocates for her students to make sure they are receiving the appropriate accommodations to help them achieve success.

As a child, Ms. DiStefano was a special education student with dyslexia. Quietly watching her mother advocate for the appropriate accommodations for her, she excelled and was able to receive the best education possible. Using this special understanding and experience, Cortnie DiStefano decided to pursue her education and career in order to help others reach their potential.

Ms. Cortnie DiStefano was given the opportunity to do interpreting in Egypt and received a "Fearless Fosdick Badge" while teaching at City Honors School, in recognition for having one of the top fourth grade team state test scores in the Buffalo School District. Ms. DiStefano plans on continuing her career in the education field for many, many more years to come, doing her best to become the best teacher her district has ever seen.
