Alba International Wonders What Faces Australia's Fifth PM in 5 years

Sydney based direct marketing and sales firm, Alba International are questioning what is in store for Australia as the country gets a new Prime Minister.

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, October 01, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- On Tuesday September 15th, Malcolm Turnbull was sworn in as the 29th Prime Minister, and Australia's fifth Prime Minister in five years, as he became the successor to the Liberal Governments' Tony Abbott.

With less than 12 months until the next election, the governing Liberal Party rejected the deeply unpopular Tony Abbott in favor of Malcolm Turnbull. Abbott's popularity began to decline due to a slowing economy and a series of political missteps. Abbott had struggled in the poles in recent months due to his controversial views on gay marriage and his ineffectiveness on meeting climate change targets. He was alienated by many voters, resulting in him being overthrown by his own party in a 54 to 44 majority.

Australia has been in political turmoil since the Labor Party government of Kevin Rudd, who became prime minister in 2007. Malcolm Turnbull has a challenge on his hands to try and run an effective government as his predecessors have struggled to do so ever since 2007. Formerly a successful lawyer and investment banker, Malcolm Turnbull now has the country's hardest job. But Malcolm Turnbull will have to lead a party -- 44 of whom did not vote for him, as well as trying to rebuild a country where, in recent years, important decisions have been made on the run and in response to flagging opinion polls.

Malcolm Turnbull has promised to consult with his colleagues and the public more often as he believes that Australians need advocacy from their leader. On climate change, Turnbull has said that the carbon emissions reduction targets Mr. Abbott recently proposed, which were criticised by environmentalists as inadequate to be substantial. He has also decided to follow Tony Abbott's decision on the same-sex marriage debate by putting it to a public vote after the next election.

It's early days for Turnbull in his position as Prime Minister, but as the party's popularity is soaring in opinion polls, so far so good.

"I hope that with the appointment of Malcolm Turnbull that will now be the end of the political revolving door. I hope Australia can now have a steady government and Prime Minster that will govern for a substantial period, helping to stabilise the economy and help the dollar recover from its recent slump," said a representative for Alba International.
