Julie Anne Kennedy Honored for Excellence in Education

    SYLVANIA, AUSTRALIA, October 16, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Julie Anne Kennedy, Deputy Principal of Sydney Distance Education High School, has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in education.

Ms. Kennedy has 40 years of professional experience, with six years as a deputy principal of Sydney Distance Education High School. Throughout her career, she has set herself apart as an expert in the fields of data analysis, executive leadership, school improvement, staff development and professional learning. Each day, she is responsible for managing a staff of 170 teachers, 25 school administrators and more than 1500 students. She regularly leads a professional learning team and technology teams, and she focuses on blended learning to include online development. Notably, Ms. Kennedy is implementing and leading an enhancing leadership capability program for staff members who either aspire to reach executive positions or to support and consolidate their leadership as classroom teachers.

Ms. Kennedy is passionate about using data analysis for school improvement, staff development and professional learning in order to improve student learning outcomes. Previously, Ms. Kennedy was a mathematics teacher; she eventually became head of the mathematics department at SDEHS in 1999, and in 2009 she was appointed deputy principal through merit selection processes.

Ms. Kennedy led a DOE Principals Learning Alliance project in 2013-2014. She developed online modules in collaboration with other schools in the state, for principals and teachers to be able to recognize what quality online learning modules look like and how to develop them mapped to the new Australian teaching standards and curriculum.

Ms. Kennedy is a distinguished leader of school planning. She ensures school improvement in order to provide better student learning outcomes, with a focus on teaching and learning for quality academic and social-emotional outcomes for all students.

Looking back, Ms. Kennedy attributes her success to a great work ethic, passion for education, distance education and improving student outcomes. She became involved in this profession after she received a scholarship for teaching. The highlight of Ms. Kennedy's career was being part of an e-learning team and the implementing e-learning in the school.

Ms. Kennedy received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and pure mathematics as well as a postgraduate diploma in education from Sydney University. She maintains affiliation with the Math Association of NSW and the Secondary Deputy Principals Association. In years to come, Ms. Kennedy intends to start doing consulting work.
