HeyU, Mobile Video Dating App, Debuts at 'Women Who Tech' Event

Aerospace Engineer Challenges Dating Apps that "Put Her in a Box"

The inspiration for HeyU was Ms. Tian's personal dating experiences. She found dating apps to be one-dimensional, with photos and profiles often boring and deceiving. That's not the case with HeyU.

NEW YORK, NY, October 27, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The HeyU iPhone app, developed to shake up the online dating world through the power of video, will debut November 9 at the first Northeast Regional Women Startup Challenge Pitch Competition.

The competition is sponsored by Women Who Tech, in a partnership with Craig Newmark of Craigslist and craigconnects. The by-invitation-only event will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Microsoft New York in Times Square.

HeyU was selected as a Top Ten Finalist out of more than 200 applicants. The winner will be awarded $25,000.

HeyU is a new video dating app that enables women and men to tell their stories and show off their personalities through 15-second video profiles. The accent is on light-hearted creativity, immediacy, and mobile user-friendliness, designed for instant video creation and upload. The app will ultimately enable users to interact with coaches and other app users for advice and peer-to-peer conversation.

"We believe that the interface and design of our app are capable of driving behavior," said HeyU founder Jingjing Tian. "Our early adopters agree that the power of video reveals dimensions of personality and creativity that no other online dating sites can achieve. It actually makes people excited about dating."

"The inspiration for HeyU was Ms. Tian's personal dating experiences," explained Jennifer Esposito, Associate VP for Operations and Development at Tranquility49 PR. "She found dating apps to be one-dimensional, with photos and profiles often boring and deceiving. That's not the case with HeyU, where videos run the gamut, from singing to skateboarding. Ms. Tian is truly a Technology Renaissance Woman - the right and left sides of her brain are an unbelievable combination."

Ms. Tian's technology team includes fellow collaborators Max Peng and Marvin Liu, both college students. The team formed in June of 2015 and succeeded in releasing a prototype in Apple stores six weeks later. The app continues its evolution.

The Women Startup Pitch Competition judges include Joanne Wilson, Investor; Susan Lyne, President of BBG Ventures; Kathryn Finney, Founder and Managing Director of digitalundivided (DID); and Victoria Song, Venture Capitalist, Flybridge.
