Hastings & Hastings Comments on Driving Statistics

Every year, millions of accidents occur, resulting in millions of injuries and billions of dollars in property damages. Everyone wants to avoid getting into an accident, yet the keep happening, and at an astounding rate.

PHOENIX, AZ, November 25, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Many government and regulatory bodies gather, calculate, and publish statistics related to automobile crashes. Hastings & Hastings believes that by analyzing and coming to terms with these statistics, everyone will be able to learn a little more about why accidents occur. This information could potentially help us reduce accident totals and save lives.

The most recent statistics which have been published by United States Highway Traffic Administration state that there were 30,057 fatal accidents in the United States in the year 2013, which resulted in 32,719 deaths. Hastings & Hastings believes that these are truly saddening numbers.

The HTSA goes on to further break down these statics. It reports that the region of the country with the lowest fatality rate was the District of Columbia at 3.1 per 100,000 people, while Montana has the highest fatality rate at 22.6 per 100,000 individuals. Arizona falls somewhere in the middle, with a fatality rate of 12.8 per 100,000. Hastings & Hastings would like to see this rate improve in Arizona. Nothing would be better than to see Arizona lead the nation with the fewest fatalities per 100,000.

Of the 32,719 individuals who were killed in fatal car accidents, almost 10 percent have been directly attributed to distract driving. Distracted driving is becoming one of the deadliest habits in the world. The leading cause of distracted driving is cellphone use. Hastings & Hastings implores all drivers to put their cellphones away when they are on the road. Checking a text isn't worth their life. Studies have shown that distracted driving is just as dangers as drinking and driving.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reposts that 10,076 people were killed in accidents involving an intoxicated driving during the year 2013. That accounts for almost a full third of accident fatalities. Drink and driving is never okay. It puts everyone on the road at risk.

By looking at these statistics, Hastings & Hastings can see that the two leading cause of automobile related fatalities are drinking and driving, and distracted driving. Hastings & Hastings believes that if these two causes could be brought under control, thousands of live a year could be saved.
