Bloomingdale's Made a Major Marketing Fail says 1st Line Global

With the holiday season being a peak time for retailers, advertising campaigns are ramped up, with many now becoming a staple of the Christmas period.

WEST PALM BEACH, FL, December 02, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A recent Bloomingdale's catalogue advert is causing uproar, and Florida based sales and marketing firm 1st Line Global believe that Bloomingdale's made a massive marketing fail.

Bloomingdale's faced backlash on social media with people taking to Twitter to voice their concerns and outrage. The caption for the printed advert showed a man and woman dressed in party attire, read "Spike your best friend's egg nog when they're not looking". While it wasn't clear as to whether the best friend was supposed to be the man or woman pictured in the advert, readers surmised that the advert was endorsing date rape.

Event marketing specialists, 1st Line Global believe that brands need to be more careful when selecting their marketing strategy. There are two sides marketers must consider. Adverts need to engage the audience and generate a response, however too much controversy can cause serious backlash and tarnish a brand. Using above the line in printed advertising, this advert was open to interpretation, rather than the in-person strategies that 1st Line Global uses. At 1st Line Global they use face-to-face promotional marketing and sales campaigns. Rather than high-cost and impersonal digital advertisements, the firm meets with customers in-person at event venues. This allows them to build relationships with customers, handle queries, instil consumer confidence and build brand loyalty.

While the firm doesn't think there was any obvious intention to cause offence, it was a serious lack of judgement on whoever signed off on the advert. "While controversy can be good in business as it creates exposure, allowing brands to reach a wide audience, this advert was one that crossed the line. For such a well-known firm to publish this was quite shocking and whoever gave the advert the green light is going to be in the spotlight," said CEO at 1st Line Global, Jaemes Hunt.

1st Line Global stated that this year many firms got their Christmas advertising campaigns spot on, however Bloomingdale's really dropped the ball.
