Silvere Boureau grew up in France surrounded by a family of artists, sculptors and writers. When he came from France in 1982, he was primarily an expressionist painter of the human form, however, he was heavily influenced by American landscape and its interpretation by nineteenth century luminists. Silvere draws inspiration from the remote wilderness, especially his experiences in the backwoods of Maine, the Adirondack Mountains and the Grand Canyon. To stand on a mountaintop and look as far as the eye can see without encountering any mark of human intervention remains an exhilarating experience for him.

A New Jersey native, Alan Taback has coached basketball and painted in the greater Trenton and Princeton areas for nearly 40 years. Inspired by his life and travels in the Southwest United States and Greece, among many other places, Alan's paintings are a celebration of the pure passions of life. Painted with acrylics and oils, his work is alive with rhythm, movement, and harmony. He has been influenced by the work of Monet, van Gogh, Kokashka, and deKooning.

"We are looking forward to having the colorful landscapes of these two talented local artists on display in the Considine Gallery at Stuart," said Dr. Patty Fagin, Head of School at Stuart. "Their work, which brings the great outdoors in, is a beautiful extension of architect Jean Labatut's vision for our school."

Silvere Boureau spent his childhood in Brittany, France, and his twenties in Paris. He attended Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Appliques in Roubaix, France, and studied graphic arts, art history, theater and painting at Universite Paris VIII before coming to the United States. In the wilderness, Silvere will paint "en plein air," sketch, or take a photograph and then paint a larger picture in his studio. He says, "My intention is to capture and render the spirit of the place with minimal interpretation."

In addition to walls and canvas, Silvere paints on furniture and folding screens. Both his decorative and landscape painting can be seen at many public venues and private homes throughout New York City, Philadelphia and Princeton. Silvere's corporate commissions include The Bank of New York Mellon, Tiffany's New York, House Beautiful Magazine, and The Tap Room at the Nassau Inn, Princeton. Alan Taback began painting in 1978 at the age of 39. He had some interest in drawing as a child, but athletics took over and became his main focus. He played basketball and baseball in college, and upon graduation, launched a successful coaching career. He currently coaches varsity basketball at Stuart, and was an athletic director and a basketball coach at Solebury School and Princeton Day School for over twenty years. He led the PDS basketball team to seven straight state championships from 1973 to 1980. It was during that period that he visited a friend and artist in Provincetown, Mass., and with her encouragement, began painting. Alan retired from coaching, and turned to painting full time.

A painting trip to New Mexico in 1988 had a profound effect on Alan's style and sensibilities, and he was taken under the wing of one of the foremost painters of the southwest. This was followed by a two-year sabbatical in Greece, where Alan continued to paint the land and portraits of Greek village people. A fellowship at the prestigious Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont, moved him in the direction of figurative painting and he spent the next ten years painting the figure in movement. He is currently painting landscapes again, working on his series, "The Land Around Blawenburg." Learn more about his work at alantaback.com.
