Mr. Tiernan has worked hard to achieve the level of success he has had. Over the course of his career, he has held positions with companies such as Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Forest Enterprises Australia Ltd. and B&E Ltd., aiding them in managing loan portfolios, credit functions, policies, compliance and risk activities, and assisting with managed investment schemes, policies and key projects. In his three years with Dnister Ukrainian Credit Co-operative Ltd., his achievements have included incorporating key tenets of an industry Strategic Review into the company's own strategies, developing a strong peer network within the customer-owned banking industry and improving benchmark KPIs. He has also exceeded risk and compliance parameters and successfully completed prudential reviews and consultations, as well as implemented a new performance review process and staff development plan, a cross-functional process improvement program to maximise the use of technology and improve efficiencies, and a range of regulatory and compliance requirements. Further, he has developed and implemented a range of key strategic projects within budgetary and timeline parameters, including a new fixed rate home loan product, a new website with mobile banking and e-statement solutions, a new bond investment portfolio and a new financial accounting and modelling system, as well as restructured branches and departments to improve productivity, the implementation of a new Visa Debit Card product and the commencement of a National Payments Platform (NPP) implementation project.

Mr. Tiernan earned a Bachelor of Business in Accounting from the University of Tasmania in 1992 and completed Deakin University's CPA program in 1995.
