Tom Rademacher Brings Storytelling Talents to Sabo PR

Tom Rademacher - who endeared himself to readers of The Grand Rapids Press as a nationally acclaimed columnist the better part of his 37 years there - has joined Sabo PR as lead storyteller.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI, January 22, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rademacher brings a wealth of experience to the SPR team, carved from a lifelong career of sharing the stories of everyday people both struggling and soaring. Since accepting a voluntary buyout from the newspaper in 2009, he's performed freelance work for clients whose storytelling needs have taken him as close as around the corner and as far away as Africa.

"I'm honored and humbled to serve SPR and the clients that its founder, Mary Ann Sabo, has cultivated over the last 13 years," Rademacher said. "I'm eager to write stories about people and organizations that exist to make a difference, and the subtle and profound ways they contribute to the common good."

Rademacher joins the growing firm of SPR, a full-service public relations firm based in Grand Rapids that now serves 30+ Michigan-based clients. In addition to his work for clients, he will also coach "Writing Matters," a weekly workshop designed to hone writing skills for businesses, nonprofits, educators, associations and municipalities.

Sabo PR provides media relations, crisis and litigation management, photography and videography, employee communications and marketing communications support to a broad range of clients, including Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, Metro Health Hospital, Crystal Flash, Plante Moran, Michigan State University, Grand Rapids Community Foundation, Hospice of Michigan, Children's Healing Center, and the cities of East Grand Rapids and Wyoming, among others.

"For nearly four decades, West Michigan has entrusted Tom Rademacher to tell its most captivating stories," said Mary Ann Sabo, president of Sabo PR. "Tom has cultivated an impressive following of readers who have come to depend on his writing and his integrity. It's no wonder he's been honored an unprecedented three times with First Place awards from the National Society of Newspaper Columnists.

"His decision to join our team only strengthens our ability to convey our clients' messages to a community hungry to explore the ways in which we're all connected. At the end of the day, it's all about the stories we have to share."

A lifelong resident of the Grand Rapids area, Rademacher brings a hardscrabble flavor to his new role at SPR. He's been employed in part-time capacities as a swim coach, lifeguard, taxicab driver, silkscreener and factory worker. For the better part of 30 years, he taught as an adjunct instructor of English and journalism for three area colleges.

The author of four books, he continues to write on behalf of the Grand Rapids Community Foundation's "Encore" initiative and Kent Intermediate School District's "School News Network."

Rademacher holds degrees from Grand Rapids Community College and Grand Valley State University. Both schools have honored him with their distinguished alumni awards. A licensed builder, he enjoys woodworking, as well as swimming, running and windsurfing.

A native of Grand Rapids, Rademacher grew up on the city's West Side. The last 25 years, he and his schoolteacher wife Hollie have lived in Rockford. They have three sons, Thom, Patrick and Andrew. "And every one of them," says their father, "can write me out the door."
