Michael J. Brennan Honored for Excellence in Workers' Compensation Law

CHICAGO, IL, January 29, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael J. Brennan, Commissioner of the Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission, has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in the practice of workers' compensation law.
Mr. Brennan has 39 years of professional experience, with three years as a Commissioner of the Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission. On August 9, 2013, Mr. Brennan was appointed as a Commissioner and his appointment was confirmed by the Senate on February 27, 2014. His appointment will run through January 2017. He was a litigator for more than 35 years. He was a principal author of Larson's Illinois Workers' Compensation Handbook and wrote extensively for Thompson West and Reuters.
In the past, Mr. Brennan was employed as an Assistant Attorney General and prosecuted tax matters and Medicaid fraud. He was eventually appointed Chief of the Industrial Commission Division. After leaving government, he engaged in the private practice of law and acted as a Special Assistant Attorney General, representing the Illinois Self-Insurers Advisory Board. He attributes his success to great mentors, enjoying his work and having a vested interest in protecting the rights of all parties.
Mr. Brennan received a JD from DePaul University College of Law in 1976, and a Bachelor of Arts from DePaul in 1973. He was recently inducted into Worldwide Registry and also maintains affiliation with the Chicago Bar Association, and Workers' Compensation Lawyers' Association. Martindale-Hubbell has named Mr. Brennan an AV-Preeminent Attorney since 1992. He has been recognized by his peers as a Best Lawyer in America, an Illinois Leading Lawyer and an Illinois Super Lawyer. In years to come, Mr. Brennan hopes to continue to serve in his current position and be reappointed for a second term by the Governor in January 2017.
The Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission adjudicates all workers' compensation claims in the State of Illinois. As a Commissioner, Mr. Brennan sits in an appellate role on such claims.
