Stern Law, PLLC Releases 'Cerebral Palsy Facts to Know in 2016' Infographic

Research shows no drop in prevalence of cerebral palsy in 2015

Our goal with this infographic is to provide parents and caregivers with digestible information that demonstrates just how many people in America are in the midst of the journey with cerebral palsy.

NOVI, MI, February 03, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Stern Law, PLLC announced Thursday the release of a custom infographic providing up-to-date data on the prevalence and impact of cerebral palsy (CP), as well as the effect of state laws on those who have suffered birth injury. Titled "Cerebral Palsy Facts to Know in 2016," the infographic is available for free on the TheCPLawyer.com.

"Cerebral palsy is a life-changing diagnosis for children and their families, and these families deserve the most current information in order to make educated decisions about medical care, legal action and other matters after diagnosis," said Kenneth Stern, founder of Stern Law, PLLC and TheCPLawyer. "Our goal with this infographic is to provide parents and caregivers with digestible information that demonstrates just how many people in America are in the midst of the journey with cerebral palsy."

According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data cited in the infographic, approximately one in 323 children exhibit signs of cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy is the leading childhood motor disorder, and the CDC found that the prevalence did not change in 2015.

The infographic also addresses the prevalence of some of the most serious effects of CP, including immobility, intellectual disability, epilepsy, visual impairment and spastic cerebral palsy. Data shows that medical expenses for children with cerebral palsy are often 10 times higher than the health care bills for children who don't have the disorder.

Finally, the infographic analyzes trends in state legislation to identify the states with some of the most and least favorable birth injury statute of limitations laws. Drawing on local news coverage, the infographic also documents the states that reportedly sought to slash Medicaid funding for CP therapy, cut special needs programs and took other steps in the preceding year that negatively affect the rights and opportunities for those with cerebral palsy and other birth injuries.
