SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, March 07, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- O'Connor Marketing meets with their clients' customers daily promoting and raising brand awareness. The firm coaches their contractors to become conversation specialists. The firm is looking to develop greater awareness on the importance of making people feel valued through the execution of great conversation. O'Connor Marketing is concerned by the heightened availability of modern technology, so much so that they believe people are going to lose touch with the ability to communicate effectively. As a result, the impact on brands and businesses in the future could be catastrophic in terms of developing loyal customer bases.

O'Connor Marketing shares their 10 tips to having better conversations:

Don't multitask. Step away from the smart device and forget all other personal distractions, arguments or other projects. Be present in the conversation fully.

Don't pontificate. Leave personal opinions at the door, try to take on board new opinions and take an opportunity to gain a new perspective. It is good to open the mind to new ideas, and learn new ways of thinking.

Use open-ended questions. Encourage people to embrace and discuss their feelings and try to ditch questions that can be answered with a yes or a no.

If you don't know, say that you don't know. Honesty and integrity are key in developing rapport and confidence with people. Humility is also a great trait to display, it will build personal trust in the long term.

Don't equate your experience with theirs. Understand that experiences are personal, and it is important to allow people to have their voice. By offering compassion rather than comparison it will allow an individual to display true feelings and will allow a better understanding of the individual's situation. A better response will be available due to information being untarnished by opinion.

Try not to repeat yourself. Keep the information fresh. Don't paraphrase or keep repeating as this will dilute the message and it's likely to allow an audience to disengage.

Stay out of the weeds. Stay to the facts, the finer details aren't as important as people think. If a small detail is forgotten move on quickly to maintain interest.

Listen. Humans were given two ears and one mouth. It is key to use them in that ratio.
Stephen Covey said it very beautifully. He said, "Most of us don't listen with the intent to understand. We listen with the intent to reply."

Be brief. A good conversation should be short enough to retain interest, but long enough to cover the subject. All of this boils down to the same basic concept, and it is this one: Be interested in other people.
