Dr. David W. Brandes, Honored for Excellence in Neurology

Dr. Brandes sets himself apart in the treatment of multiple sclerosis



    KNOXVILLE, TN, April 08, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- David W. Brandes, MS, MD, FAAN, Medical Doctor Hope Neurology Center of Turkey Creek Medical Center has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in the treatment of multiple sclerosis.

Dr. Brandes has 37 years of professional experience, with six years as a medical doctor at Hope Neurology Center, located within the Turkey Creek Medical Center. Throughout his career, he has set himself apart in the treatment of neurological disorders, specifically multiple sclerosis. He has conducted a variety of MS research projects including immunosuppressive treatment, cerebrospinal fluid analysis, glatiramer acetate studies, beta-interferon studies and medication adherence. Each day, he is responsible for practicing at the neurology center, working as an assistant clinical professor at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine, and giving numerous presentations on multiple sclerosis, both nationally and abroad.

Dr. Brandes has participated in a variety of research projects, including immunosuppressive/immunomodulatory treatments, beta-interferon titration studies, medication adherence and cerebrospinal fluid analysis in multiple sclerosis, as well as research in stroke, Huntington's disease, neuropathic pain, sleep disorders and other neurological conditions. In addition to providing patient care and performing research activity, Dr. Brandes also gives many presentations on multiple sclerosis to national and international audiences, where he educates both health care providers and patients.

Dr. Brandes received a Bachelor of Science from Knox College, IL and a master's degree in biochemistry from UCLA. He began his medical education at the UCLA Medical Center, and he has since pursued neurology studies at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System. In addition to his degrees, he holds a board certification from the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology. He maintains affiliation with the American Academy of Neurology; the Stroke Council of the American Heart Association, and the Mid-South Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. In the coming years, Dr. Brandes will continue to do research and speak on multiple sclerosis.
