Oral Allergy Drops Offer a Lasting Solution for Dogs' Hot Spots

Allergy in dogs can cause painful, inflamed skin ("hot spots.") Creams and steroids may help temporarily, but Pallergy oral allergy drops offer lasting relief.

SAN DIEGO, CA, April 10, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Hot spots-the itchy, red skin patches that often plague dogs-can spiral into a maddening cycle. Medications may clear them up temporarily, but they often return, sometimes becoming painful and infected. With allergy often underlying the skin condition, Pallergy presents a new line of orally-dosed allergy immunotherapy drops that can help pets leave allergy-related hot spots behind for good.

Pallergy drops work much like allergy shots, helping pets develop an immunity to allergens that once triggered miserable symptoms. Instead of being injected, though, the antigen is dispensed in the mouth where it absorbs into the pet's blood stream through specialized oral cells. In addition to being easier to administer than shots, the drops have a lower risk of anaphylactic reaction, so they can be given safely at home rather than at the vet's office.

While many allergy shot programs protect dogs against just a few local allergens, Pallergy drops contain a mix of the country's most prevalent allergens for more thorough protection.

Dr. Stuart Agren, allergy vet who developed the Pallergy drops, said that they are often a better choice than other medications because they can stop the problem at its source.

"Topical creams, antihistamines and steroids may temporarily improve the hot spots, but if there is an underlying allergy, the hot spots will continue until the allergy is addressed," said Agren.

Dogs can be allergic to the same things that plague humans-seasonal pollens, dusts, mold etc. Chemicals released during an allergic reaction cause the skin to become itchy and inflamed. The more dogs itch and lick at their irritated skin, the more likely they are to develop hot spots.

In the 1980s, Agren developed a line of oral immunotherapy drops that have since helped him rid over 15,000 patients of allergy symptoms without the hassle of shots. Recently, he developed Pallergy drops which can do the same thing for cats, dogs, and horses. Vets around the country can prescribe the drops, and pet owners can administer them to their pet once daily at home.

Pallergy offers sublingual immunotherapy drops for pets with allergies. The daily oral drops allow for injection-free, steroid-free allergy treatment of hot spots, itching, and atopic dermatitis. Allergy veterinarians can now prescribe Pallergy drops to help horses, cats and dogs achieve lasting allergy relief.
