Michael T. Gibson, P.A. Awards College Scholarships to Central Florida's Top Student Athletes

Central Florida's Top High School Seniors Awarded for their Academic and Athletic Accomplishments



    ORLANDO, FL, April 23, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Law Firm of Michael T. Gibson, P.A. is pleased to announce this year's Scholar Athlete Award Winners. Student athletes Kyra Ann Ashcraft and Vivek Suri of Winter Park High School each received a $2,500 scholarship check in recognition of their outstanding academic and athletic achievements. This year's winners were recognized at the Orlando Solar Bears' final home game of the season at the Amway Center in downtown Orlando.

"I started this scholarship program to honor high school seniors for their accomplishments in the classroom, on the playing field and in the community." said attorney Michael T. Gibson. "These graduates have maintained exceptional grades, excelled in athletics and strengthened their communities through volunteer work and community service, some of them overcoming insurmountable obstacles. They are exemplary individuals and live by the same ideals and core values our firm stands for and believes in."

Kyra Ann Ashcraft has a 3.8 GPA (weighted GPA of 4.67) and has been taking AP and honors level courses at Winter Park High School. While being a stand-out student her senior year of high school, Kyra enrolled in the Dual Enrollment Program, where she began taking college courses at Valencia College. While juggling AP Macroeconomics, Anatomy & Physiology honors, she is an active member of the Kiwanis Key Club, National Honor Society, Athletic Honor Society, FLO Music Club, and SADD (Students Against Drunk Driving). A competitive gymnast since the age of 5, Kyra made her school's Varsity Football and Competitive Cheerleading team when she was just a freshman. She has been a member of both teams for four years and has served as co-captain, taking her team to victory in the metro, regional and state cheerleading competitions. She has been awarded the Coach's Choice Award and the Most Valuable Cheerleading Award two years in a row. Kyra has already been accepted to the University of South Florida, where she will be a member of the USF Bulls' Cheerleaders. She plans to major in Accounting and minor in Criminal Justice and Psychology. Her career goal is to become a Forensic Accountant upon graduation.

Vivek Suri has a 4.0 GPA (weighted GPA of 5.17) and scored a 2360 on the SAT. He is a senior in the International Baccalaureate program at Winter Park High School and has been accepted to Yale University, where he will major in biomedical engineering and pre-med. He has been a star Varsity Swimmer and Water Polo player since his freshman year at Winter Park High School. Vivek is President of the National Honor Society, a National Merit Semifinalist and was awarded the Sunshine State Scholar award for showing excellence in the STEM-related fields. In addition, he was selected as WPHS's Disney Dreamer and Doer, and won the Spirit of Boy's State at the Florida American Legion Boys State. Vivek is the Student Body Treasurer of Winter Park and the Chair of the Community Service Committee, where he plans and executes all community service events at WPHS. Recently, Winter Park raised the most food of all participating schools for the Share Your Christmas Food Drive. For his outstanding efforts, Vivek was interviewed twice by WESH 2 News. Community involvement is a passion of Vivek's. He works with an organization called Ekal Vidyalaya, which sets up schools in rural villages in India. Vivek has independently raised over 5,400 dollars for the organization. He is also a talented violinist who has played in the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra for four years. Last year, he was awarded the prestigious Alphonse Carlo Scholarship, which is given to one outstanding member of the orchestra.

The Michael T. Gibson Scholar Athlete program recognizes Central Florida's top high school seniors who have excelled in academics, athletics and are actively involved in their community.

The Scholar Athlete program highlights the achievements of one male and one female student athlete each year. At the end of the school year, winners are awarded a $2,500 scholarship check.
