Novel Mechanical Thrombectomy Device Successfully Treats 100 Year Old Patient

Aspire Successful In Removing Clot from 100 Year Old Patients Leg

"I was able to remove significant clot and restore flow to the foot very quickly, and spare the patient exposure to thrombolytic therapy." - Dr. John Rundback

PARK CITY, UT, June 07, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. John Rundback, an interventional radiologist and Medical Director of the Interventional Institute at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, NJ, successfully used the ASPIRE Mechanical Thrombectomy device to remove thrombus from a patients leg.

The 104-year-old patient presented with severe claudication and a cold foot. She was not a candidate for anti-coagulation therapy. An angiogram revealed significant thrombus in the iliac and popliteal arteries. Dr. Rundback used a balloon and a covered stent to reopen the iliac artery. He then used the ASPIRE Mechanical Thrombectomy device to remove clot from the popliteal artery restoring blood flow to the foot. The patient was relieved of their symptoms.

"The ease of use and efficacy of the ASPIRE device was impressive," said Dr. Rundback. "I was able to remove significant clot and restore flow to the foot very quickly, and spare the patient exposure to thrombolytic therapy."

The ASPIRE Mechanical Thrombectomy System allows clinicians to instantly start, stop, increase, decrease, pulse or maintain thrombectomy force during a procedure. ASPIRE Mechanical Aspirators also aspirate up to 280ml, almost 10 times more than basic syringe based systems, without multiple messy and time consuming catheter connections, disconnections, and reconnections to improve speed and performance.

"Removing thrombus and revitalizing flow in the arteries below the knee is certainly a challenge," said Chris Livingstone, VP of sales and marketing for Control Medical Technology. "The ASPIRE Mechanical Thrombectomy Device provides physicians with an additional tool to remove clot from many areas within the body. The technology is effective, simple to use, and cost effective for physicians and hospitals."

The patented ASPIRE Mechanical Aspirator is available by itself or in kits that include an over-the-wire or rapid exchange thrombectomy catheter. ASPIRE Thrombectomy Aspirators may be connected to any catheter the clinician chooses and used as a high performance syringe.

Control Medical Technology designs, develops, and markets innovative thrombus management, biopsy, and aspiration devices, including the patented ASPIRE Mechanical Aspirator, ASPIRE RX-LP6 Mechanical Thrombectomy System, and ASPIRE MAX Thrombectomy System.
