Carondelet Community Betterment Federation is Seeking St. Louis Regional Artists to Submit Concepts for its 8th Mural on Broadway by July 1, 2016!

Artist selection and installation of Mural is slated for this summer.

ST. LOUIS, MO, June 16, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Carondelet Community Betterment Federation, a 501c3 charitable organization, is calling all St. Louis regional artists to qualify for the 8th Mural on Broadway to be installed this summer. A St. Louis-based artist or artist team is wanted to submit exciting ideas for a high profile public art opportunity along South Broadway in the Carondelet area.

Located in the very southern tip of the city of St. Louis, Carondelet's neighborhood includes the South Broadway business district, the Ivory Triangle and Boulevard Heights.

The location of the new mural will be designated by the Murals on Broadway Strategic Plan, of the Murals on Broadway Public Art Program Committee. Carondelet Community Betterment Federation's (CCBF) Request for Qualifications is open to all working artists and artist teams residing within a 100-mile radius of St. Louis.

"We are excited to launch this eighth Mural on Broadway opportunity this summer," said Fred Hessel, CCBF Executive Director. "CCBF works to identify and improve the basic social and economic needs of Carondelet, and this project not only helps us engage the passer-by and encourage them to visit the Carondelet area, but additionally enhances the aesthetic experience of the buildings along Broadway."

The 7th mural, created by Ray Harvey, a New Haven, Missouri artist was dedicated just this past spring. His mural is a tribute to jazz legend Mr. Clark Terry, and is located at 7714 S. Broadway. The Murals on Broadway Public Art Program has a goal of ten murals to be implemented along South Broadway. Located in Historic Carondelet, Mo., the MOBPAP Committee, a committee of CCBF, was formed to implement art on South Broadway between Bellerive Park and the River Des Peres to ensure this major thoroughfare in Carondelet is represented artistically.

Artists may submit interest and qualifications to the Murals on Broadway Public Art Committee. Submittal deadline is Friday, July 1, 2016, and final artist selection will take place by Friday, July 29, 2016. Submissions must include a cover letter describing interest in the project and how this project relates to past work, a resume with current contact information and a set of 10 labeled images of related past work, among other requirements. For complete details and instructions on how to submit a request, please visit http://www.carondeletliving.com or call 314-752-6339.

A selection panel made up of artists, arts professionals, neighborhood stakeholders and CCBF representatives will review each submission of qualifications. Three artists or artist teams will be paid $150 to develop a design concept which will be reviewed by the Artist Selection panel for final selections. It will be necessary that the artist carry liability insurance during fabrication and installation of the work, and upon completion of installation, the work will be insured by the Carondelet Community Betterment Federation.
