Gourmet Living's New Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Tuscany, Italy

Experience the joy of an authentic Tuscan EVOO harvested in 2015 from olive trees on the rolling hillsides south of Florence

Extra Virgin Olive Oil is at the heart of the Mediterranean diet.

STAMFORD, CT, July 06, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gourmet Living is delighted to introduce its Tuscan extra virgin olive oil, harvested in late 2015 from olive trees on hills south of Florence, Italy. This distinctive blend is made from the 3 traditional Tuscany olive varieties: Frantoio (50%), Moraiolo (30%) and Leccino (20% more or less).

Olives used in this extra virgin olive oil blend were harvested between the 15th of October and the 20th of November. In keeping with Tuscan traditions, the olives are harvested in the morning and crushed the same afternoon to extract the highest quality of oil and the maximum level of freshness and antioxidant compounds.

Experience has shown that green or half-colored olives tend to have the best combination of aroma and color. While ripe olive tend to produce a higher yield of oil, its aroma and quality tends to suffer when compared to "younger" olives that have not matured on the tree. In general, 100 kilos of olives, produces 12 kilos of olive oil.

The olives are then crushed at a temperature below 27 degree C (81 degree F), a process which lasts about 40 minutes. The oils are then cold-extracted in a very modern olive oil mill to preserve the freshness of the oil. In keeping with the requirements of the International Oil Council ("IOC"), extra virgin olive oil may only use olives free of defects that have not been subjected to heat.

Tuscan olives are usually small and production per tree is quite low when compared to the south of Italy and Spain. Typically, olive oil production from this area yields about one liter per tree per year. This explains why the flavor of Gourmet Living's blend is very concentrated and intense.

Olive oil is at the heart of the Mediterranean diet. Typically, extra virgin olive oil is used in salads or added to roasted vegetables and many pasta dishes. Others use olive oil to quickly saute meats, but it is generally not used in cooking because olive oil has a relatively low smoking point.

There are many reports suggesting that the consumption of olive oil may actually be useful in helping to cope with cancer, heart disease, oxidative stress, high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis and osteoporosis. Some of these health claims may be exaggerated, but quality olive oil combined with fresh produce does appear to promote a healthier lifestyle.

Gourmet Living's extra virgin olive oil from Tuscany is currently available for sale on Amazon. Special sales promotions are available through the month of July, but quantities are limited.
