Page 1 Solutions developed its crisis management campaign last year in response to the news that a former client, Minnesota dentist Dr. Walter Palmer, killed an iconic lion named Cecil during a hunting expedition. Users accessing outdated information on Dr. Palmer's practice website mistakenly believed the agency still had a business relationship with the dentist, and targeted Page 1 Solutions with online insults, false negative reviews and even threats.

The agency responded by replying individually to angry users on social media and performing outreach to local media with opportunities to cover the impact of the international news item on a Colorado small business. Reporters from several TV, radio and online outlets in the Denver area interviewed employees at Page 1 Solutions to get their side of the story, the coverage ultimately reaching more than 370,000 homes.

The crisis management campaign reversed the social media backlash as well, with the agency seeing a 500% increase in new fans on Facebook as well as a 160% spike in new Twitter followers.
