James Berick Honored by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Law

James Berick is the namesake of Columbia's James H. and Christine Turk Berick Center for Student Advising



    CLEVELAND, OH, July 18, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- James Berick has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A 1955 graduate of Columbia University, Mr. Berick is honored to have the school name its student advisory center in his honor. The James H. and Christine Turk Berick Center for Student Advising focuses on assisting students in the Columbia College and The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, so that they may have the best possible academic experience. Mr. Berick earned this honor due to his many accomplishments over the course of his legal career; after graduating from Columbia, he went on to receive a JD from Case Western Reserve University.

Mr. Berick started in his profession as an associate and then partner at Burke, Haber & Berick in Cleveland, Ohio. He served as managing partner of the firm for 15 years prior to becoming the chairman of Berick, Pearlman & Mills Co. LPA in 1986. Mr. Berick then became a partner of Squire, Sanders & Dempsey, which later became Squire Patton Boggs (US) LLP, prior to his retirement in 2003. He remained affiliated with Case Western Reserve University's School of Law as well, serving as a lecturer in law from 1969 to 1978, and as a member of the dean's advisory council from 1998 to 2008.

Mr. Berick found time to fulfill numerous other positions over the course of his career. He was secretary of the Cleveland Browns Football Co. LLC from 1961 to 2002, a founding member and life trustee of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, a member of the Board of Visitors of Columbia College, a member of the Presidential Visiting Committee at Case Western Reserve University, an elected member of the Shaker Heights Board of Education, trustee of the Arthritis Foundation of Northeast Ohio, and a member of the board of directors of many publicly traded companies including MBNA Corporation, among other roles.

In recognition of his various achievements, Mr. Berick received the John Jay Award from Columbia College in 1999, and from the Arthritis Foundation, both the Community Leader of the Year Award in 2003 and the National Development Volunteer of the Year Award in 2011. He has also been featured in the 44th through 70th editions of Who's Who in America, the 13th through 19th editions of Who's Who in American Law, the 27th through 42nd editions of Who's Who in the Midwest, and the 23rd and 24th editions of Who's Who in the World.
