GROVE CITY, PA, July 29, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Richard Trammel has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Trammell is a graduate of Berea College in Kentucky, Union Theological Seminary and Columbia University both in New York City. He has taught many different courses in philosophy, and published numerous articles in biomedical ethics. But recently he has specialized in logic, including symbolic logic (both introductory and advanced courses) and also general logic. His most recent publication is Symbolic Logic and Other Forms of Deductive Reasoning. The first 6 chapters of this book deal with the basic components of symbolic logic, up to and including properties of relations and identity. It is shown many times how putting English statements into symbolic notation reveals the complexity (and sometimes ambiguity) of natural language (i.e., All A's that are B's are C's). Examples to translate are taken from musicals, legal documents, federal tax instructions, etc. In chapter 7 there is a detailed discussion of Jules Richard's Paradox with a challenge presented to the orthodox interpretation of this paradox - waiting for someone to answer! The last 4 chapters introduce 7 immediate inferences in Aristotelian logic, traditional syllogisms in Boolean logic, probability problems, and reasoning from data problems (as in certain types of LSAT multiple choice questions). This book can be purchased from Amazon for $25 plus tax and postage. Dr. Trammell is very thankful for his wife Catherine, and children John, Julie and Mark, and many students who have continually encouraged him along the way.
