Tamar Frankel Honored for Excellence in Legal Education

Ms. Frankel is a legal educator and writer who is noted for her knowledge of fiduciary law, corporate governance, mutual funds and the regulation of the financial system. She has been a member of the faculty at Boston University School of Law since 1967, serving first as a lecturer, then as an assistant professor of law. Ms. Frankel has been a full professor of law since 1971. She has also authored numerous books, articles, and book chapters on banking and financial instruments, corporate law, business and transactional law, and securities.

Born in Tel Aviv, Ms. Frankel studied law in Jerusalem and worked as an attorney in the Israeli Air Force's legal department, an assistant attorney general for Israel's Ministry of Justice, and a legal adviser to the State of Israel Bonds Organization in Europe. She came to the United States in 1963 and attended Harvard University, earning an LL.M. in 1964 and a Doctor of Juridical Science in 1972. The same year, she was admitted to practice by the Boston Bar. Ms. Frankel brings to her student experience working in private practice in Israel, Boston, and Washington, DC. Her professional affiliations include the Massachusetts Bar Association, the American Law Institute, the American Bar Association, the American Bar Foundation and the Boston Bar Association.

In 2013, Ms. Frankel was honored to have the Institute for the Fiduciary Standard establish the annual Frankel Fiduciary Prize, which recognizes individuals who advance fiduciary principals. This honor is one of several that Ms. Frankel has achieved over the course of her career. Other distinctions include being chosen as one of the Women Trailblazers in the Law, and one of the Leading Lawyers in the World. Ms. Frankel has also been featured in the 10th, 11th, 14th and 15th editions of Who's Who in American Law, the 21st and 27th editions of Who's Who of American Women, the 25th edition of Who's Who in the East and the 31st edition of Who's Who in Finance and Industry. Ms. Frankel has appeared in multiple editions of Who's Who in America as well.
