PLANTATION, FL, August 05, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Laura Finley has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

As a humanities educator and consultant, Dr. Finley brings to her position more than 15 years of experience in higher education. Over the course of her career, she has served as an associate professor of sociology and criminology at Barry University; however, it is in her advocacy work where she has gained national recognition. Since 2007, Dr. Finley has been a board chair of No More Tears, a nonprofit organization with a mission to assist and empower victims of human trafficking and domestic violence. She is also a member of the Humanity Project in Fort Lauderdale, the Peace and Justice Studies Association, the South Florida Diversity Alliance, and Floridians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty. In recognition of professional excellence, Dr. Finley was named Domestic Violence Volunteer of the Year by the Broward Domestic Violence Council, and was the recipient of an award from the Women's Peace Power group, as well as a social justice collaboration award from the American College Personnel Association.

A member of Amnesty International, Dr. Finley attributes her success to her passion for helping others. "Those who are victims of domestic abuse or violence of any kind feel that they do not have a voice," she says, adding that she feels most fulfilled not only when she can be a voice for the abused, but when she is able to help them rediscover the voice within. Dr. Finley's successes are directly related to her education and experience. She holds a Ph.D., which she earned at the start of her career in 2002. Following her graduation from the Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, she immediately began her quest to enact positive change in the state of Florida. Looking forward, Dr. Finely intends to continue working to help women and victims around the country find inner peace.
