Eunice Ross Recognized by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Law

Judge Ross spent six decades as an attorney, law clerk, court division director and judge in Pittsburgh and for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

PITTSBURGH, PA, September 02, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Eunice Ross has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Backed by more than six decades of combined professional experience, Judge Ross celebrates a career that afforded her the opportunity to serve the Commonwealth as an attorney, law clerk, court division director and judge. Having retired in 2004, she finished her career as a judge for the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania. Previously, she was a judge for the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, director of the Family Division of the Court of Common Pleas, a judicial assistant in the orphans' court and a law clerk. Judge Ross was also chairman of the Orphan's Court Rules Committee and served for a year as a member of the Public Health Law Research Project, which resulted in clean streams, clean air and modern health regulations for the Commonwealth. Judge Ross graduated first in her class from the University of Pittsburgh and from the School of Law in 1951 and scored the highest on the state bar exam, which she took in 1952 because the Public Health Law project did not count as a clerkship to antedate the bar examination.

Aside from her professional duties, Judge Ross served as president of the University of Pittsburgh Alumni Association and a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Pittsburgh and then as a member of the Board of Visitors of the law school and the School of Public Health.

Judge Ross taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Pittsburgh Law School from 1965-1972. She also served on the Commonwealth Board of Judicial Inquiry and Review and on the Governor's Justice Commission.

She has authored Justice (1995) and co-authored A Survey of Pennsylvania Public Health Laws and Will Contests. She has been named Woman of the Year by the Girl Scouts and has received the first Susan B. Anthony Award from the Women's Bar Association and a Certificate of Achievement from the Pennsylvania Federation of Women's Clubs.

Judge Ross belongs to the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation, the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, and the American, Pennsylvania and Allegheny County Bar Associations. She served on executive committees and was chairman of the Young Lawyers Association 1959, Scribes and the Order of the Coif.

Daughter of Richard Kelly and Eunice (Weidner) Latshaw, widow of John Ross (d. 1978) and mother of Gerry Eunice Ross Coleman (1947-2011); grandmother of Ian Ross Coleman (b. 1979).
