A retired oral surgeon, Dr. Coombs has been selected by Marquis Who's Who due to his excellence in the fields of oral surgery and education. He was the previous head of oral surgery at Sydney Dental Hospital and made the decision to retire this year. However, Dr. Coombs still holds the role of senior lecturer at The University of Sydney, sharing his extensive knowledge of his profession with dental students. He also continues to work as a maxillofacial radiologist consultant at the Canada Bay Medical Center in Five Dock, New South Wales.
Dr. Coombs earned a Master of Dental Surgery in 1986 to prepare for his fulfilling career as an oral surgeon. That same year, he became a certified oral surgeon in New South Wales. Prior to this, Dr. Coombs received a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from The University of Sheffield, along with a diploma from the College of Radiographers. He began working as a private general dental practitioner at Woodhall Spa, before moving on to becoming an oral surgeon at the Department of Defence and a Lieutenant Colonel in the Royal Australian Army Dental Corps. Dr. Coombs' exceptional work in these positions awarded him the Defence Long Service Medal and the Colonel Kenny Award. He has also been featured in Who's Who in the World. In addition to these accomplishments, he has authored a textbook on dental radiography.
To keep current with advancements in the area of oral surgery, Dr. Coombs is a fellow of the International College of Dentists, as well as a member of the International Academy of Dentomaxillofacial Radiology. He served as a regional representative for the latter from 1996 to 2010. Dr. Coombs was a Group Scout Leader of the Woodhall Spa Scout Group and is now a Leadership Member of the Lord Baden Powell Society Scout Association of Australia.
