As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With an evident passion for the theater, Ms. Gately has worked as an educator in the acting world since 1980. During her tenure, she has been involved with the Gately Poole Conservatory in New York City. At the onset of her career, she was a master teacher with the company and eventually took on the additional role of co-director. During her tenure at NIU, the MFA program also established an exclusive training association with the Moscow Art Theatre School in Russia. Within the U.S., she has also served as the master teacher at the School for Film and Television in their two-year Meisner program.

As co-creator and teacher for the Gately/Poole two-year Intensives held in London, Chicago, New York City, and Boston, she was prompted to create these acting programs to impact the arts and entertainment in the theatrical industry. She affirmed: "Young actors today desperately need strong and effective training in order to achieve artistic and commercial success."

Her students are recognized in Film and Television as the recipients of the Palm D'or, Golden Globe, Emmy, Ace, SAG, Obie, Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics, Helen Hayes, Theatre World, and Joseph Jefferson Awards. In addition to being featured in the book Acting Teachers of America...A Vital Tradition and interviewed on NBC's Extra and in People Magazine, she was also acknowledged by James Gandolfini on Bravo's Actors Studio.

To properly prepare for her own career, Ms. Gately earned a BFA in drama from the Boston Conservatory of Music in 1978 and an MFA in acting from Rutgers University two years later in 1980. She is certified in acting by the Neighborhood Playhouse. A former Head of the College Division of the Illinois Theatre Association, Ms Gately has served on the boards of the Chicago Actors Project and the Nat Horne Theatre on Theatre Row in New York City.
