Dr. Stephanie J. Bird Recognized for Excellence in Science and Ethics

A fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Dr. Bird now serves as a science and ethics policy consultant



She has authored many articles and has been the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Science and Engineering Ethics since its founding in 1995.

    WRENTHAM, MA, November 08, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Stephanie J. Bird has been included in Marquis Who's Who. In 1971, Dr. Stephanie Bird, a laboratory-trained neuroscientist embarked on a journey toward a career in science and ethics. After earning a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, she went on to graduate from the prestigious Yale University with a Master of Science, a Master of Philosophy and a Ph.D. Following postdoctoral fellowships at Johns Hopkins University and Case Western Reserve University, she began her career as a staff scientist with the Neuroscience Research Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and served in that capacity from 1979 to 1982. Over the following 10 years she held various appointments at MIT, ultimately serving as Special Assistant to the Provost and to the Vice President for Research from 1992 to 2003.

A fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Dr. Bird now serves as a science and ethics policy consultant. She has authored many articles and has been the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Science and Engineering Ethics since its founding in 1995. From 1984 to 1986, she received a professional development award from the National Science Foundation. Additionally, she was awarded an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation fellowship through MIT's Science, Technology and Society Program.

Dr. Bird is a member of several organizations, including Sigma Xi, the Association for Women in Science, the International Neuroethics Society, the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics, and the Society for Neuroscience. She has also been featured in the 65th, 66th, 67th, 68th and 69th editions of Who's Who in America.
