Dr. Bruce Finlayson Honored by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Chemical Engineering

Dr. Finlayson dedicated his career to sharing his knowledge with others



    SEATTLE, WA, December 06, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Bruce Finlayson has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. A Professor Emeritus of the University of Washington since 2005, Dr. Finlayson is highly regarded for his expertise in chemical engineering. He started his career by earning a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science from Rice University in 1961 and 1963, respectively, and proceeded to complete a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1965. After a stint on active duty as a lieutenant in the US Navy Reserve from 1965 to 1967, Dr. Finlayson accepted a position as an assistant professor at the University of Washington, and the rest was history. In his 38 years at the school, he served as a professor in the department of chemical engineering and applied math, a Rehnberg Professor, and the Chairman of the department of chemical engineering. He was admitted to the National Academy of Engineering in 1994.

During Dr. Finlayson's time at the University of Washington, he also served his professional community in a variety of other capacities. He was a visiting professor at Carnegie Mellon University, Swansea University in Wales, and Universidad Nacional del Sur in Bahia, Argentina, as well as a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Further, Dr. Finlayson enjoyed sharing his wealth of knowledge and background experiences through creative works such as, "The Method of Weighted Residuals and Variational Principles," "Nonlinear Analysis in Chemical Engineering," and "Introduction to Chemical Engineering Computing." He was also a member of the editorial board for the International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids and others, a trustee of Computer Aids to Chemical Engineering Education, a member of the board on chemical science and technology for the National Research Council, and a member of professional organizations such as American Institute of Chemical Engineers (President, 2000) and the American Society of Engineering Education.

As a testament to his success, Dr. Finlayson was featured in every edition of Who's Who in America published between 1986 and 2016, as well as numerous volumes each of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who in the West.
