I was attracted to German driving school models because of the history they represent, the fine way they are made, and they engaging way they are interactive. -- Rare Toy Collector Ron Sturgeon

ANN ARBOR, MI, December 08, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- When the auto was new, the Germans created driving schools to prepare aspiring drivers for the system roads that would become the autobahn. Being German, they did driver education with the same completeness they brought to other serious work.

They created interactive models of automobile systems that became a staple of instruction in German driving schools. Eventually, films and videos replaced these intricate German driving school models; however, because of their precision and beauty, they became sought-after collectibles.

In the 1990s and 2000s, Ron Sturgeon, a Fort Worth, Texas-based entrepreneur, made several trips to Europe to add to his collection of German driving school models. "When I first started collecting, I collected automotive toys, particularly Mercedes, so I was attracted to German driving school models because of the history they represent, the fine way they are made and the engaging way they are interactive."

Sturgeon has displayed his collection of models in DFW Elite Toy Museum in Fort Worth for the last several years. "While I hate to see these rare German driving school models go, it's time to pass them on to other collectors," said Sturgeon.

Showtime Auctions will auction select pieces from Ron Sturgeon's collection of German driving school models on March 31 and April 1 and 2 as part of its Spring 2017 Live Auction at Washtenaw Farm Council in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Online/absentee bidding will open on March 1 at ShowtimeAuctions.com.

In addition to the driving school models from the Ron Sturgeon Collection, Showtime Auctions Spring 2017 live auction will also feature gambling-related items collected by Richard and Mary Shulte as well as a 40-year collection of advertising signs and story display items.

Showtime Auctions Spring auction will also include the second part of the Tiny Moyer Salesman's Sample and Tiny Stove Collection. In addition, many rare turn-of-the-century Detroit-related items will also be up for bid.
