John William Lund, Ph.D., Recognized for Contributions to Geothermal Science

Dr. Lund has authored and edited a wide variety of industry-related publications

    KLAMATH FALLS, OR, December 09, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- John William Lund, Ph.D., has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Widely regarded for his extensive knowledge in the field of geothermal science, Dr. Lund has served as the director of the Geo-Heat Center at the Oregon Institute of Technology, department chair of civil engineering and Dean of Engineering. He retired from the Geo-Heat Center in 2010 as Administrator Emeritus. He is now a private engineering consultant in geothermal energy doing international work.

Initially joining the university as an associate professor of engineering in 1967, he has continued to hold a keen interest in engineering and industrial technologies throughout the duration of his career. Eager to share his knowledge with others, he has authored and edited a wide variety of industry-related publications, including "Geothermal Direct Use Engineering and Design Guidebook," "Stories from a Heated Earth, Our Geothermal Heritage" and "Southern Oregon Cross Country Ski Trails."

Upon graduating with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering, Dr. Lund attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he received a Master of Transportation Engineering in 1962. He assumed the role of assistant professor of civil engineering with the University of Alaska prior to completing a Ph.D. in civil engineering at the University of Colorado in 1967. Today, Dr. Lund is registered as a professional engineer in Colorado, Oregon and California, and currently maintains involvement with the American Society of Civil Engineers and American Society of Engineering Education. In 1997, he became the first vice president of the Geothermal Resources Council, later rising to the rank of president in 2001. He also served as president of the International Geothermal Association.

In recognition of his ongoing contributions to geothermal science, Dr. Lund has been featured in numerous honors publications, including Who's Who in the West and Who's Who in Engineering and Science. The Geothermal Resources Council presented Dr. Lund with the Geothermal Pioneer Award in 1997 and the Joseph W. Aidlin Award in 2008. In 2002, he received a medal of honor from the International Summer School, and in 1995, he was recognized as a Mitsubishi Fellow with The University of Auckland. He also received an award from the Italian Geothermal Association.
