Dr. Earl Ferguson Revered for Accomplishments in Medicine

Dr. Earl Ferguson has had a diverse career in medical education, research, healthcare administration, development of health information technologies, and experience in practice in remote areas and environments.



    RIDGECREST, CA, December 21, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Earl Ferguson has been included in Marquis Who's Who. The medical field has benefitted a great deal from the professional development and contributions of Dr. Ferguson over the last 50 years. After earning a BA in chemistry from Baylor University in 1965, he completed an MD and Ph.D. in physiology from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB), in 1970. He completed his medical internship at UTMB in 1971 and his medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at Duke University Medical Center in 1975. He is board certified in Medicine, Cardiology and Preventive Medicine and has embarked on a career path of 20+ roles.

Dr. Ferguson has alternated among roles in medicine, basic and clinical research, healthcare management, telemedicine/telehealth and other health information technology development, and other related activities. He has had numerous grants and awards with extensive publications. He was a Charter Member of the faculty (Acting Chair of Biochemistry) of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, School of Medicine, in 1976. His last academic position was Chief of Cardiology and Cardiology Training Program Director, Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center, San Antonio, TX. The next phase of his career lead him to healthcare administration as Chief of Staff, USAF Medical Center Scott, Scott AFB, IL; then Commander, USAF Hospital Little Rock, Jacksonville, AR; Deputy Command Surgeon, Headquarters Military Airlift Command, Scott AFB; and Commander, USAF Medical Center Wiesbaden, Wiesbaden, Germany (before, during and after the First Gulf War). His last military/government position was as Director, Aerospace Medicine and Occupational Health, NASA Headquarters, DC. He retired as a Colonel in 1995 and was an SES-6 with NASA 1995-6. He left Federal service in 1996 to learn more about rural American medicine and develop health information technologies to support remote, underserved areas.

Over the past 20 years in practice in the remote high desert of California Dr. Ferguson has continued leadership in extensive research and development with many grants and publications on diverse areas. He was CEO and his wife, Sun H. Paik, PhD, DPharm, COO of Sun BioMedical Technologies 2002-15 that had many SBIR awards (DoD, NSF, CDC/NIH) and Cooperative Research & Development Agreements (CRADAs) focused primarily on genomic and proteomic biomarker development related to inflammatory diseases (infections, cardiovascular inflammations, etc.). He was also a principal in foundation of the Bakersfield Heart Hospital 1997- and in AglaeaUSA 2012-. Dr. Ferguson is now Medical Director, Pertexa, a disruptive technology productivity tool for healthcare providers that markedly simplifies healthcare visits, coding and billing of patient visits, etc., using a touch tablet that does not require typing or dictation and is coupled to 5000 anatomic diagrams linked to chief complaint(s) that rapidly lead providers through exams and enhances interactions with patients.

Dr. Ferguson was named an Ashbel Smith Distinguished Alumnus, University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 1993. He has had many other distinguished awards and has held numerous other senior management positions since moving to California in 1996.
In recognition of his accomplishments, he's been the recipient of a considerable amount of awards, including the UnitedHealthcare grant, the HRSA grant, and a research grant with VA. Dr. Ferguson has also been included in the 51st through 63rd and 65th through 70th editions of Who's Who in America; the second, third, and 5th through 8th editions of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare; the first and 5th through 11th editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering; the 24th edition of Who's Who in the East; and the 17th, 19th through 26th, and the 28th through 33rd editions of Who's Who in the World.
