Bella Chao Chiu Recognized for Discoveries in Astrophysics

Ms. Chiu is credited with numerous discoveries related to the patterns of storms and earthquakes



She joined the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a member of the research staff in 1971 and remained there for 10 years.

    ARLINGTON, MA, January 06, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Bella Chao Chiu, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Drawing upon more than 50 years of experience, Ms. Chiu is widely regarded as an astrophysicist, researcher and writer. She has been credited with a wide range of discoveries, including the hypothesis and subsequent discovery of evidence that shows the main driving force behind El Nino and La Nina storms is caused by a combination of solar gravity with that of the moon. In addition, Ms. Chiu has discovered that solar eclipse paths can occasionally be used to predict a storm. She has also completed research on several major earthquakes which indicate a similar driving force. Her earlier work focused on supernovas and quasars.

Since 1997, Ms. Chiu has worked as a researcher in Arlington. She began her career in 1953 upon graduating from the University of California, Berkley with a Bachelor of Arts. From there, Ms. Chiu attended Cornell University, where she received a Master of Science in 1956. She joined the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a member of the research staff in 1971 and remained there for 10 years. She served in China as a foreign expert for Qinghua University from 1986 to 1987. Ms. Chiu returned to the United States to continue a career in writing and research. From 1984 to 1986, she served as an English editor for the National Association of Chinese Americans.
Throughout the course of her career, Ms. Chiu has received numerous grants from the National Science Foundation. She has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who in the World.

Additionally, she was selected for inclusion in the 11th edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, which was published in 2010. Ms. Chiu maintains involvement with the historical division of the American Astronomical Society, as well as the Archeological Institute of America and Women's Health Initiative.
