ALTOONA, WI, January 10, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael G. Cunningham has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Over the course of his career, Michael G. Cunningham's passion for music has allowed him to excel as a composer, music educator, and author of several books on music history, theory and composition. Dr. Cunningham, who is originally from Warren, Mich., earned a Bachelor of Music from Warren State University in 1959 and a Master of Music from the University of Michigan in 1961. After serving for a year in the United States Army, Dr. Cunningham began his music career in earnest as an accompanist, music director, and instructor at Wayne State University.

In 1969, Dr. Cunningham relocated to Indiana to pursue a Doctor of Music and become a teaching assistant at Indiana University. Before obtaining the degree in 1973, he also worked briefly as a lecturer in music theory at the University of Kansas, as well as an assistant professor of conservatory music at the University of the Pacific. Dr. Cunningham spent the remainder of his teaching career with the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where he served as a professor of music theory and composition until 2006.

Dr. Cunningham is perhaps best noted, however, for his body of work as a music composer and writer of music books. He has four orchestral CDS available for purchase on Amazon.com, titled "Sonic Flight," "Colonnade," "Gallery," and "Paragonia." His most recent books include "Music History in Layers (2015), "Written Music Ideation" and "Jazz Improvisation," both published in 2013, "Gilded Songs (Berlin to Bacharach)," published in 2010, and "Hello to Classical Music" and "Kaleidatonal Hearing," both published in 2009.

Dr. Cunningham is a member of the American Society of Composers, the Wisconsin Alliance for Composers, Phi Mu Alpha, and a Sigma Alpha Iota honoree since 1992. His accomplishments have been featured in the 3rd edition of Who's Who in Entertainment and the 27th through 33rd editions of Who's Who in the World, as well as multiple editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the Midwest.
