A researcher, educator and physician at Gunma University for the last 25 years, Dr. Sato is revered for developing applications and performing research on a number of viruses and human conditions. Most notably, he validated effective therapy for chronic hepatitis B and C, performed research in actual situation liver tumors with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, and developed extensive research surrounding the identification of Werner syndrome as a possible cause of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. Dr. Sato has achieved recognition for his research in elucidation of the role and mechanism of transforming growth factor-alpha in hepatic fibrosis, research in validation of partial splenic embolization for antiviral therapy in chronic hepatitis C with thrombocytopenia, research in elucidation of the antifibrotic and antioxidant effects of azelnidipine on models of experimental liver fibrosis, and research in the establishment of response guided therapy for chronic hepatitis C patients with genotype 2 and high viral loads. In recognition of his tremendous impact on the medical field, Dr. Sato has been the recipient of countless research grants, including those from the Japan Society for Promotion Sciences and the Japanese Foundation for Research and Promotion Endoscopy. He was also honored by Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare in its yearly publications honoring top professionals in their respective fields.
Dr. Sato is a fellow and diplomate of the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society, the Japan Society of Hepatology, the Japanese Society of Gastroenterology and the Japanese Society of Internal Medicine. Additionally, he is a member of the Japanese Gastroenterology Association. Driven by a passion for medicine, Dr. Sato ensured he was academically prepared for his career before establishing his prominence in the field. In 1990, he earned an MD from Jichi Medical University in Japan and, later, earned a Ph.D. from Gunma University. During his professional time with the college, Dr. Sato served as a physician at the University Hospital and its affiliate medical center, a senior resident on two occasions and an associate professor, which is a role that consumes much of his time today. In addition to conducting in-depth research, Dr. Sato has authored "Trends in Bone Cancer Research," "Focus on Vitamin E Research," and contributed articles to professional journals.
Looking to the future, Dr. Sato intends to continue his work in the field of medicine. Further, he will continue acting as an educator while performing additional and extensive research in his areas of expertise.
