Data Scientist Brian Goodwin Joins Concurrency

Predictive analytics expert--first on staff at a Microsoft-focused systems integrator

Brian's expertise will lead to critical insights flowing from organizations' manufacturing lines or logistics networks right into their board rooms.

MILWAUKEE, WI, February 08, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Brian Goodwin, Ph.D., a data science expert with a focus on predictive analytics, has joined professional services firm Concurrency, Inc. as the company's first Data Scientist. Goodwin is the first Data Scientist on staff at a Microsoft-focused systems integrator.

"Brian's expertise is an absolute game changer for our clients," said Nathan Lasnoski, Concurrency's Chief Technology Officer. "Many organizations are generating incredible amounts of potentially valuable information--such as through cloud-connected sensors--but are unable to resolve patterns into actionable insights. That's where Ph.D.-level human expertise is irreplaceable."

Lasnoski said, "Brian's expertise will lead to critical insights flowing from organizations' manufacturing lines or logistics networks right into their board rooms. That means deriving much more strategic value from their IT investments such as IoT devices. Many organizations can gather large amounts of data, but the real moment of digital transformation arrives when you can harness that data to predict the future. After a yearlong search, we found in Brian the ideal combination of skills to make a practical difference for our clients."

Depending on the industry, predictive analytics might:
- Estimate when equipment will need maintenance
- Detect anomalies
- Offer quantitative product management insights
- Provide an artificial intelligence for driving real-time decisions

At Concurrency, Goodwin will be part of the Modern Apps team. He earned his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Marquette University in 2014. Goodwin's technical expertise includes predictive analytics, machine learning, frequency domain analysis, signal processing, adaptive filtering, finite element modeling, and other key areas for modeling and analyzing large amounts of data.

"I'm excited to work with Concurrency and its clients on projects that help organizations translate data into action," said Goodwin. "Every data set has a story to tell, and it's up to the data scientist to extract that story."
