John H. Hammer II Lauded for Contributions to the Field of Hospital Administration

    WESTVILLE, IL, February 17, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- John Henry Hammer has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

After more than three and a half decades of industry experience, Mr. Hammer retired in 2007. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from St. Joseph's College and studied at the University of Maryland in Europe. Upon completing his studies, he started as a project manager for Economic & Manpower Corp., where he worked from 1971 until 1973. Subsequently, he left that role to serve as the assistant director of human resources for St. Catherine Hospital from 1974 until 1980. During that same time period, he took on the role of president of the Employees Credit Union at which point he transferred to Lakeview Medical Center, where he served as director of personnel for four years before taking on the role of vice president for Lakeview - a position he held from 1984 until 1988. For the next seven years, he served as vice president of United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville, Illinois.

Mr. Hammer served as an assistant director of operations and maintenance at the University of Illinois student union from 1997 until 2007. Since retiring, he has been asked to return on a temporary part-time basis four times and worked again from 2010 to 2015. He earned an MBA from the University.

He was a member of the Indiana Society of Hospital Personnel Administrators from 1974 to 1980, serving as Chairman of the Membership Community, a director, and as President Elect as well as President. He was also a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He has been a member of the American Legion since 2015.

He also worked with high school students in Junior Achievement of Danville, Illinois, teaching them how a business is run.

Mr. Hammer is particularly proud of having served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force from 1967 to 1971. He joined the U.S. Air Force Reserve in 1974 and served until 1993 when he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. During his time in the Reserves, he won a variety of awards for his services, including Outstanding Company Grade Officer of the Year at Grissom Air Force Base in 1977, Communications Squadron Commander of the Year in 1987 and 1980, and his unit being named Communications Squadron of the Year in 1988.

He has been featured in Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare and Who's Who in the World.
