During his five-decade career, Mr. Groton has established a worldwide reputation as a thought leader in the dispute prevention and resolution field

ATLANTA, GA, February 22, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- James P. Groton has been included in several Marquis Who's Who volumes during the past three decades. As in all of those biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of eminence and current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Driven by a career-long passion for preventing, de-escalating, mitigating and finding efficient ways of addressing problems and potential disputes, Mr. Groton is considered an expert and thought leader in the field of dispute prevention. In his so-called "retirement" from active law practice with the international law firm which is now known as Eversheds-Sutherland, he devotes a substantial amount of pro bono time to research, writing, teaching, and educating business organizations, business leaders and corporate counsel in the principles and methods of proactive prevention of disputes. He has had a remarkable record of success in helping to "keep the peace" on numerous construction projects and in other business relationships and transactions around the world. He has lectured on dispute resolution at numerous educational institutions, been a prolific writer for and leader in professional societies devoted to dispute prevention and resolution, and has served as Chairman of the Dispute Avoidance and Resolution Task Force (DART), President of the American College of Construction Lawyers, Board of Directors of the American Arbitration Association, Board of Directors of the Educational Foundation of the National Association of Women in Construction, General Counsel of the National Academy of Construction, and President of the Georgia Arbitrators Forum. His public service activities have included the Board of the Northwest Georgia Girl Scouts Council, the Board of the Atlanta Council for International Visitors, and Trustee of South Kent School. In recognition of his professional excellence, he has been awarded a Medal of Excellence by Engineering News-Record, the Whitney North Seymour Medal of the American Arbitration Association, Honorary Membership in the American Institute of Architects, two awards for Excellence in Dispute Resolution from CPR, and election to the National Academy of Construction. Most recently, he has been listed in Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in America, and Who's Who in American Law.

Mr. Groton prepared for his career by attending the Cathedral Choir School in New York City; South Kent School in South Kent, Connecticut; Princeton University (graduating cum laude); and the University of Virginia, where he was articles editor of the Virginia Law Review. He was admitted to the practice of law in Washington, DC in 1954, Georgia in 1955, and the United States Supreme Court in 1964.
