For the US Citizen in Canada - What You Need To Know At Tax Time!

What forms are required to be submitted? What returns? And on what side of the border to pay tax?

PORT COQUITLAM, BC, February 28, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- JPS Financial and Accounting Services is holding a US Tax and informational filing seminar in Vancouver, March 4th 2017 in response to growing number of questions from US citizens here in British Columbia. They want to know what forms or returns they need to file and what changes they should be aware of.

There has always been the requirement for US citizens outside the US to file taxes and other informational returns with the US on an annual basis. The last few years there has been a definite trend of increasing numbers of returns being actually filed. For example the IRS announced that 2015 was a record setting year for the number of FBAR (Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts) reports that were filed - 1.16 million reports, and the numbers increased by an average of 17% during the five years before that. Pat Fournier of JPS notes that "Whether it's reports by the press or promotion by the IRS, US citizens outside the US are becoming more aware and asking questions about their responsibility to report"

The seminar is designed to help US citizens gain a better understanding of what it is they are required to file with the US government and IRS to keep them tax compliant while living in Canada. The most commonly required forms are explained and compared to their Canadian equivalent to give the taxpayer a better understanding of what is required.
