MINNEAPOLIS, MN, March 01, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- After resounding success at the inaugural event last October, the People of Color Career Fair is returning to connect highly qualified candidates of color with recruiters from Minnesota's most respected employers in April 2017.

Gov. Mark Dayton once again leads the charge, saying, "Minnesota government and all our state's businesses should reflect the rich diversity of the people we serve. I urge Minnesota business leaders to join our effort to ensure equitable opportunities for all Minnesotans. And I urge interested career-seekers to attend the People of Color Career Fair to discover what opportunities await you in Minnesota."

Presented by U.S. Bank, State of Minnesota and Comcast, the People of Color Career Fair brings employers and candidates together to help reduce the region's 14.4 percent unemployment rates among people of color. Over quadruple the rate among white communities, this disparity is a problem all parties want to see solved so Minnesota can be a great place to live, work and play for all.

"At U.S. Bank we value the ideas and perspectives of all of our employees, and we know that diversity makes us stronger," said Jennie Carlson, Executive Vice President, Human Resources, U.S. Bank, adding that they've seen early success following the inaugural event.
Jeff Freyer, Regional Vice President, Comcast, said, "We have several great career opportunities, and we want to diversify our workforce. We are proud to partner with the People of Color Career Fair to help us achieve our goals."

State of Minnesota's Chief Inclusion Officer, James Burroughs, offered strong support, citing positive outcomes from October's event. "Not only have we already hired four candidates to high level positions within state government, but we've met and are currently interviewing many other highly skilled candidates," Burroughs said.

The People of Color Career Fair was created by Sharon Smith-Akinsanya, CEO of the rae mackenzie group, inc. "This event empowers companies to proactively create the change that closes the gap that can ultimately harm the economic stability of our state," she said.
Employers and jobseekers are urged to participate and can register at www.peopleofcolorcareerfair.com.

Candidates who pre-register will be invited to attend a free career-building workshop prior to the event. Candidates submitting a resume in advance will a free headshot. Attendance for candidates is FREE.
