Orange County native, Jessica Van Oyen, outshines students from over 30 states and wins accolades by demonstrating strong artistic ability and a philanthropic focus

The intensity of Jessica's painting Broken and accompanying artist statement captured our attention and touched our hearts, allowing us to name her as the clear winner

FULLERTON, CA, March 08, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Influence Print is pleased to announce the winner of its annual Award for Design Excellence scholarship: Jessica Van Oyen. Jessica is a distinguished honor student at California State University, Fullerton, pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in Graphic Design. As part of her award, she is to receive a gallery-quality print of her digital work (up to 96x48 inches) utilizing one on one of Influence Print's state-of-the-art digital printers, along with a $1000 cash award for her studies.

Jessica's application outshined hundreds of others who were tasked with submitting a visual design and an artist statement to be judged on quality of design, creativity of design and "sharability" or emotion. "The intensity of Jessica's painting Broken and accompanying artist statement captured our attention and touched our hearts, allowing us to name her as the clear winner," said founder and chief executive Ronald Sizemore. "Jessica is not only excelling in her studies, she also demonstrates top-notch digital design skills and a strong desire to affect positive change on our environment- things which are vitally important in today's world."

In the artist statement accompanying her painting Broken, Jessica writes, "Through visually dynamic and compositionally engaging designs like the one I have created, I hope to join the ranks of designers who have dedicated themselves to the philanthropic cause of improving the world through raising awareness of our impact on the environment. My design is based on the pattern works of the master M.C. Escher; with a monochromatic color scheme and the use of repetition, I represent the stable nature of the ocean with a wall of fish. By introducing a new variable, the Hand of Man, in a complementary color and forceful placement in the composition, the static nature of the scene is disrupted and creates a sense of urgency. The placement of the fleeing fish, and holes created in the pattern by the forceful removal of some of the captured, is used to highlight our damaging influence on the stability of order in the ecosystems of the sea."
