Dr. William Tozer Recognized for Accomplishments in Entomology

Dr. William Tozer was the first to publish evidence for underwater behavioral thermoregulation in adult insects



    LA MESA, CA, March 14, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. William Tozer has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Tozer brought 46 years of talent and knowledge to the field of entomology before his retirement in 2015. Beginning with his earning of a Bachelor of Science in natural science from Niagara University in 1969, the California state certified community college biology and zoology teacher alternated between the classroom and research institutions to help build upon the advancements of the field. After graduating from his undergraduate institution, Dr. Tozer worked as a junior high school science and English teacher at St. Patrick's School in Corning, NY (now known as All Saints Academy) from 1969 to 1971. He served in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1973 before moving to Indiana to work as a biology teaching assistant at Ball State University from 1974 to 1976; he obtained a Master of Science in biology from the University in 1979. From 1976 to 1979 and 1986 to 1988, he worked as a biological environmental consultant in private practice. He was also a research assistant at The University of California, Berkeley from 1979 to 1986, where he earned a Ph.D. in entomology in 1986. Dr. Tozer spent the next 16 years of his career as the department head of education and training for the U.S. Navy Disease Vector Ecology and Control Center in Alameda, California and Poulsbo, Washington.

Dr. Tozer has been an active member of industry related and personal interest organizations over the course of his career. He has been department head of the Navy Environmental and Preventive Medicine Unit Five (NEPMU-5) in San Diego, CA, from 2005 to 2015 and a committee member of the Armed Forces Pest Management Board (AFPMB) in Washington, D.C. since 1994. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the EPA Certification and Training Assessment Group from 2001 to 2005, chairman of the AFPMB Education and Training Committee from 1997 to 2006, and acting chairman and a member of the San Francisco Bay Area Mosquito Control Council in Alameda, CA from 1988 to 1996.

Dr. Tozer has contributed numerous scientific articles to professional journals, including Nature (London). He was also the first to publish evidence for underwater behavioral thermoregulation in adult insects, and has co-presented papers at industry-related meetings and workshops.
