Dr. Lynda Boren Honored by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Gifted Education

With three decades of combined experience, Dr. Boren is an expert teacher of those students who demonstrate the potential to develop skills beyond standard expectations for their age and grade level



    NEW LLANO, LA, March 21, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Lynda Boren has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With six to ten percent of students in the United States classified as gifted and talent, it is imperative that educational experts support, encourage and enhance their learning experience by utilizing special practices, procedures and theories. Backed by more than 29 years of combined experience in education, Dr. Boren is highly regarded for her work with students who display the potential to develop significantly beyond what is expected for their age. Retired since 2010, she concluded her career as a teacher of the gifted for Leesville High School in Louisiana, where she worked for 18 years. Other noteworthy roles in her career include professor for Northwestern State University, visiting professor for Newcomb College Institute at Tulane University, Fulbright lecturer at the universities of Erlangen-Nuremburg in Germany and Srinakarinwirot in Bangkok, Thailand, as well as visiting professorships at Georgia Tech and Middlebury College, Vermont. Dr. Boren is a recognized Fulbright lecturer by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, whose work has been spearheaded by the U.S. Information Agency, a leading independent foreign affairs agency supporting U.S. foreign policy and national interests.

Dr. Boren is a prominent member of professional organizations in her occupation and pertaining to her personal interests. She was a member of the Modern Language Association and is a lifetime member of the Fulbright Alumni Association. She has been honored for her excellence with an Andrew Mellon Fellowship at Tulane University and a summer NEH fellowship for teachers at Princeton. She has been featured in multiple Who's Who volumes including Who's Who in American Education.

To prepare for her career, Dr. Boren attended the University of New Orleans, where she achieved a Bachelor of Arts in 1971 and a Master of Arts in 1973. Thereafter, she earned a Ph.D. from Tulane University. In sharing her expertise with other professionals in her field, Dr. Boren has authored and edited academic books and essays. Her most notable publications include "Eurydice Reclaimed: Language, Gender and Voice in Henry James" and "Kate Chopin Reconsidered," as well as essays in the "Encyclopedia of American Poetry" and "Awakenings: The Story of the Kate Chopin Revival." She also worked with her family to restore a farmhouse that was part of the original progressive colony of New Llano, Louisiana, and has lectured on topics connected to this utopian experiment at the New Llano Colony Museum and academic events. As she looks to the future, Dr. Boren continues work on her farmhouse, while pursuing her hobbies of painting, gardening, writing and creating video and photo documentaries of the indigenous plants and wildflowers of her region of Louisiana.
