In his career, he has worked in both educational and research positions, where he has developed a well-rounded skillset that has led him to earn a reputation of excellence in his industry. Notably, he has served as an associate professor for the University of Buenos Aires, exploration manager and exploration geologist for Repsol S.A., and vice president of asset exploration for Repsol USA's exploration and production sector. In recognition of his professional excellence, Dr. Zapata has earned multiple grants by the National Science Foundation to further his research and work.
Before establishing himself in the field of science, Dr. Zapata served with the Argentine Navy for more than five years. Thereafter, he attended Cornell University and earned a Ph.D. in 1995. To remain at the top of his field, he is tremendously active in his professional community. He is involved with initiatives with the Geological Society of Spain, the Asociacion Geologica Argentina, and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. As he looks to the future, Dr. Zapata intends to continue in his geology work while taking on new opportunities in the field as they arise.
