Leslie Hunter Recognized by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in History

A historian regarded for his expertise in higher education, Dr. Hunter celebrates a distinguished career that lasted more than four decades



    TUCSON, AZ, April 04, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Leslie Hunter has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A historian regarded for his expertise in higher education, Dr. Hunter celebrates a distinguished career that lasted more than four decades. He concluded his career as a regent's professor of history at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, where he came to prominence in the decades prior in earlier roles with the college. He was an assistant professor from 1969 to 1974, eventually progressing to associate professor and professor roles. On two occasions during his tenure, Dr. Hunter was the chairman of the history department, first in 1986 and again in 1991. Driven by a passion for history, he was recognized nationally for his professional excellence through his honors with Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who in the West.

To prepare for a career in academia, Dr. Hunter invested in his own education. He attended the University of Arizona, where he achieved a Bachelor of Arts in 1964, a Master of Arts in 1966, and a Ph.D. in 1971. He remained at the top of his field through his memberships with the American Association of University Professors, the Texas Council for the Social Studies, the Texas Computer Education Association, the South Texas Historical Association and the Arizona Historical Society, where he served on the board of directors for the Southern Arizona chapter. Dr. Hunter published and edited several written works including "The 75th Anniversary History of Texas A&M University- Kingsville," "Historic Kingsville," "Missions in Spanish Texas," "Journal of South Texas," and "Social Studies Texans." As he looks to the future, Dr. Hunter intends to continue his passion projects relating to history, which includes his active participation with the Arizona Historical Society.
