History Associates Celebrates the Opening of Philadelphia's Museum of the American Revolution

Historians researched more than 150 repositories and collected nearly 500 images to support this innovative new museum.

"Finding images to support the exhibits was particularly challenging, given the time period," noted Phoebe McDougal, lead historian from History Associates on the project.

ROCKVILLE, MD, April 19, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- On April 19, 1775, fighting broke out between Massachusetts militiamen and British troops in the Battles of Lexington and Concord. Famously known as the "Shot Heard Round the World," it marked the turning point of a movement that evolved from a series of grievances into a war for independence. 242 years later on April 19, 2017, the Museum of the American Revolution opens in downtown Philadelphia. History Associates was part of the innovative museum's creative team, assisting with high-resolution acquisition and licensing of historic images.

Working closely with design firm HealyKohler Design, History Associates contributed to the experiential design while maintaining the historical integrity of iconic works of art. "Finding images to support the exhibits was particularly challenging, given the time period," noted Phoebe McDougal, lead historian from History Associates on the project. "Most of the available imagery consisted of artworks that required high-resolution scanning - not to mention substantial negotiations to secure permissions."

History Associates collected nearly 500 historic images for the exhibits which are featured on the exhibition panels, film pieces, and interactive computer displays. Working with over 150 repositories all over the world, History Associates negotiated image rights for colonial paintings, engravings, maps, and daguerreotypes. The resulting imagery enhances the immersive experiences, including an interactive display of revolutionary war propaganda, floor-sized maps of the campaign in New York, and expansive murals of iconic Revolutionary War artwork.

History Associates was part of a dynamic creative team on the project, which included HealyKohler Design, Donna Lawrence Productions, Bluecadet, Wide Awake Films, and Dan Bosin and Associates.
