Lois Allen Honored by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Music Education

Ms. Allen taught music in Columbus, Ohio for six decades



Some of her most recent roles include member of the board of directors and president of the Women's Association of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.

    COLUMBUS, OH, May 02, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Lois Allen has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. A passionate musician, Ms. Allen taught music privately in Columbus, Ohio from 1960 to 2016. During that time, she assisted countless students in cultivating an appreciation for the art of music. Ms. Allen, who holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts from The Ohio State University, began teaching music at Upper Arlington High School in 1954. In 1956, she accepted the role of high school music supervisor in Westerville, Ohio for one year. Ms. Allen's work then took her back to The Ohio State University, where she taught music from 1957 to 1959. She went on to utilize her early experience to teach in a private setting throughout Columbus, Ohio.

In addition to teaching, Ms. Allen served as an educational radio interviewer for WOSU from 1970 to 1972. She was the choir director and church organist at Mountview Baptist Church from 1960 to 1977, and executive director of the Battelle Scholars Program Trust Fund from 1983 to 1986. Ms. Allen has maintained professional affiliations with the American Guild of Organists, the League of American Orchestras, and now the Ohio Citizens for the Arts. Ms. Allen is a member of the famous TBDBITL Alumni Band of The Ohio State University.

Ms. Allen has remained active in leadership and membership positions with numerous civic organizations as well. Some of her most recent roles include member of the board of directors and president of the Women's Association of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. She was an ambassador for The Ohio State University School of Music, and a committee member of the Columbus Museum of Art's Decorators Show House in 2013 and 2015.

In recognition of her efforts and talents, Ms. Allen has collected several formal honors over the years. She received a Music Educator Award from the Columbus Symphony Orchestra in 2005 and a Columbus Symphony Advocate Award in 2002. In 1995, she was named Woman of the Year in Upper Arlington Ohio by her local Rotary Club, and in 1970, she was named Central Ohio Woman of the Year by Kappa Delta. Ms. Allen was also selected to be featured in the 55th through 70th editions of Who's Who in America, the 7th and 8th editions of Who's Who in American Education, and the 1st through 3rd editions of Who's Who in Entertainment. She has appeared in multiple editions of Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.
