For the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (JCAHO), now The Joint Commission, he was the Chair of the Sentinel Event Advisory Group that determined the National Patient Safety Goals and also, past chair of the Pneumonia Clinical Advisory Panel. Earlier, he was a member of the Hospital-wide Clinical Indicators Task Force. For the Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA), he founded the Practice Guideline Committee and was elected to the IDSA governing council. For the Food & Drug Administration (FDA), he was the founding chair of the Drug Safety and Risk Management Advisory Committee. He was a member of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) expert panels on community-acquired pneumonia and surgical infection prevention. Dr. Gross was the Project Leader for The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant entitled Pursuing Perfection: Raising the Bar for Healthcare Performance. He co-chaired the New Jersey Quality Improvement Advisory Committee for many years. Finally, he initiated the Hackensack Alliance Accountable Care Organization (ACO) and served as co-chairman of the National Association of ACOs (NAACOS). Among his numerous publications is Implementing evidence-based recommendations for health care: Papers from the Leeds Castle Conference in Medical Care 2001; 39 (8(Supplement II).
