Marquis Who's Who Recognizes Dr. Annabel K. Stephens for 50 Years of Excellence in Library Science

Dr. Stephens is the author of Assessing the Public Library Planning Process and Public Library Collection Development in the Information Age



    NORTHPORT, AL, June 09, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Annabel K. Stephens has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Supported by nearly five decades of practical experience, Dr. Stephens has earned a stellar reputation in library science. An adjunct professor at the University of Alabama's School of Library and Information Studies after retiring in 2007 from her full-time position, Dr. Stephens started her career as a librarian for Alabama's Muscle Shoals Regional Library. From there, she obtained the role of branch head for the Memphis Public Library, before joining Mississippi's Jennie Stephens Smith Public Library as the director and then the University of Alabama as an assistant professor, becoming an associate professor in 1995.

An alumna of the Mississippi State College for Women, George Peabody College, and the prestigious Columbia University, Dr. Stephens holds a Bachelor of Arts, Master's of Library Science and Doctorate of Library Science. In order to keep abreast of changes in the field, she affiliates herself with the American Library Association, where she is a lifetime member, the Public Library Association, the Association for Library and Information Science Educators, and the Alabama Library Association. A contributor to 27 articles in professional journals, she has authored two books: Assessing the Public Library Planning Process, and Public Library Collection Development in the Information Age.

Notably, Dr. Stephens has earned a plethora of awards for her professional accomplishments. In addition to being awarded the College of Communications and Information Sciences Knox Hagood Award in 2007, she was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2015, and was chosen as the 2016 Beta Phi Mu awardee for distinguished service in library education. Dr. Stephens has been featured in Who's Who in America (2016, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010 and 2009), one edition of Who's Who of American Women, two editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the World (2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011 and 2010).
