Time to Say "Buh-Bye" to the Big Guys says Virginia Vacation Rentals

A Bad Idea Takes on a Life of its Own

CHINCOTEAGUE, VA, July 20, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Just when vacation rental homeowners and guests thought it couldn't get any worse, it did. Another national vacation rental home listing site, that many trusted and promoted, is rolling out its plan for the future and it doesn't look good.

"We received the word last night that this site is going the way of the other national listing sites," said Bunnie Riedel, owner of the Virginia Vacation Rental site www.vavacationrentals.com. "We're not sure what's going on, whether they've sold to the big box listing site or are just adopting their tactics, but none of it is good."

Homeowners listed on the free national site were informed that if they subscribed quickly the charge would be $199 a year until the site met its goal of subscriptions (undefined), then it would be $350 per year.

"We're now hearing rumors that they will charge renters a booking fee and if they follow the formula, it will probably be somewhere between 9% to 15%," said Riedel. "There's also rumors, yet unconfirmed, that the big sites will charge homeowners a per booking fee."

Virginia Vacation Rentals is a statewide site and is joined by other statewide and regional sites going live across the country, each one independently owned and operated.

"As a vacation rental homeowner I have watched in horror at what the big boys have been doing," said Riedel. "I've had many conversations with vacation rental homeowners that count on that income for their retirement. These are people who've spent a lifetime thinking that what they were doing was investing in their future, and now that looks like it might evaporate and people are angry and afraid."
